ADA -- Sophomore Paige Ordean threw a 5-hit shutout in Game 1 and freshman Kirstel Lightel followed with a 2-hit shutout in Game 2 to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a 2-0, 1-0 sweep in an Ohio Athletic Conference double header with Baldwin Wallace Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field
The Polar Bears (18-9, 9-5 OAC) scored twice in the fourth inning for the only runs in the opening game against the Yellow Jackets (10-20, 2-12)
Senior Kelly Sheridan tripled home freshman Gia Saturday and scored on a sac fly by senior Taylor Manahan to put the Polar Bears on top 2-0 in the fourth.
Ordean (5-4) made those runs stand up as she completed the shutout, striking out two.
In Game 2, Lightel (12-2) allowed two hits and struck out three. She did not allow a runner past second base in her dominating perfromance.
Northern's run came in walk off fashion in the the bottom of the seventh when Saturday singled, went to third on a double by Manahan and scored on a sharp single by sophomore Mehan Hupp.
The Polar Bears will return to action Thursday with a non-league twin-bill at Anderson (Ind.)
