LA CROSSE, Wis. - Sophomore All-American Avery Baker-Schlendering (Freeport, Maine) broke  her own school record twice in thrilling fashion to win the high jump national title to lead the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track & field team Day 2 of the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on a Friday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Ohio Northern has scored 11 points for the Championships.
  • Record: Ohio Northern (38-9 Overall).
  • Venue: Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex - La Crosse, Wis.
  • The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
  • Finishers 9-16 earn Second Team All-America honors by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association.

ONU Individuals

  • Baker-Schlendering trailed the leader before clearing a school record 1.76 meters to tie it.
  • She then broke her own record to win the title with a jump of 1.79 meters. 
  • Baker-Schlendering won her first career title and now is a two-time All-American. 
  • Junior Katelyn Wagner (Sycamore/Wynford) placed ninth in the shot put with a 13.46 throw.
  • Wagner earns second team All-America honors.
  • Senior Claire Schweller (Paulding) earned her second career All-American honors in the pole vault on Thursday by clearing 3.95 meters.

  • Baker-Schlendering becomes the fourth women national champion in program history. 
  • She won the 12th national championship for the ONU Women's Track and Field program. 
  • This was Baker-Schlendering second NCAA Championships appearance and Wagner's first appearance. 
  • The top 22 individuals and the top 16 relay teams in each event qualify for the NCAA Championships.
  • Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 17th year at Ohio Northern and is 620-194-3 in women's oudoor track and field for a winning percentage of .749. He is ONU's all-time winningest coach in track and field history.
