Ohio Northern Volleyball team earns AVCA Team Academic Award for 2011-12

ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team earned the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the 2011-12 academic year.

The Polar Bears finished the year with a 3.52 team GPA and has now won the award eight times, including now in back-to-back years.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Polar Bears, under 22nd-year head coach Kate Witte, will open the 2012 season on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the 34th annual ONU Invitational at the ONU Sports Center.
