Volleyball notches conference win with sweep at Capital

BEXLEY — The Ohio Northern volleyball team earned an Ohio Athletic Conference victory over host Capital, Tuesday night, sweeping the Crusaders 25-10, 25-15, 25-23.
The Polar Bears move to 9-10 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Crusaders fall to 16-9 overall and 0-3 in the OAC.
Sophomores Cenzie Yoder, Kristen Davidson and Nicole Pottkotter paced the Polar Bears with eight kills apiece. Yoder also contributed team-high three aces and three blocks.
Junior Ellen Grenert added seven kills, nine digs and five assists.
Sophomore Jeni Kmic tallied a match-high 22 digs. Freshman Hannah English dished out 29 assists, while adding seven digs and two aces.
Reigning OAC Player of the Week Sanyana El-Naggar led the way for the Crusaders with eights kills and seven digs.
The Polar Bears led all of the first set, capped off by a Yoder ace. ONU also led all of the second set, and Crusader attacking errors and another Yoder serving ace sealed the second game.
The third set proved a bit more challenging for Northern, falling behind 23-20. But the Polar Bears were able to rattle off five straight points, highlighted by two Yoder kills and one by Davidson for the 25-23 victory.
Ohio Northern will return to action this weekend, when the team travels to Atlanta to compete in the Emory (Ga.) Tournament. The Polar Bears will square off against No. 3-ranked Emory, Maryville (Tenn.), Piedmont (Ga.) and Lynchburg (Va.).
