Four named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for 2018-19

ADA — Four Ohio Northern student-athletes were named Scholar All-America in wrestling for 2018-19 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Senior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland), juniors Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin) and Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) and freshman Shaun Wagner all earned the honor.

The four honorees is the second-most in ONU program history and brings the total to 60 over the history of the program.

Davidson is now a three-time Scholar All-American and a two-time placer at the NCAA III Central Regionals at 174 pounds. He finished the season with a 31-10 record and 10 pins.

He is a mechanical engineering major and ended his career with a record of 116-50 with 34 pins, ranking him sixth all-time in ONU history.

Davidson was named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference this season and was named the OAC Wrestler of the Week twice in his career.

Transue is now a two-time Scholar All-American as a civil engineering major.

He posted a 21-8 record with three falls and placed sixth at the NCAA III Central Regionals at 125 pounds.

In his three seasons as at ONU, Transue is 60-39 with 10 pins.

Andrews placed eighth at the NCAA III Regionals this season and had a 26-13 record with five falls wrestling primarily at 149 pounds.

A business management major, Andrews will enter this season season with a 58-45 career record with 12 pins.

Wagner had a solid 23-12 record with eight pins at 157 pounds in his rookie season.

He is majoring in nursing.

Wagner placed eighth at the NCAA Regionals and was named the OAC Wrestler of the Week on Feb. 4 this season.

Honorees must have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the previous full academic year.

Transfers and freshmen are eligible if they've been in residence at their current institution beginning in the fall of 2016.

On the competition side, wrestlers must be a national qualifier in 2016-17 and have a minimum win percentage of at least .500.

Additionally, wrestlers can also be considered if they placed in the top six at their respective regional tournament, a win percentage of .500 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled competition in NCAA championship events.

A wrestler can also be considered if they have a win percentage of .670 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled NCAA events.

Ohio Northern finished the 2018-19 season with a 6-9 overall record, were sixth in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 1-5 record and finished 6th of 19 at the NCAA III Central Regionals under 31st-year head coach Ron Beaschler.
