Distance Medley Relay team leads Men's Track & Field on Day 1 of the OAC Indoor Championships

MARIETTA — The distance medley relay team of freshman Ian McVey, junior Ian McKee, junior Andrew Harden, and sophomore Matt Molinaro earned Ohio Athletic Conference Championship honors to led the Polar Bears on day one of the OAC Indoor Championships hosted by Marietta at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

The Polar Bears are currently in second place with 32 points.

Mount Union leads with 41 points and John Carroll is in third with 26 points.

Northern posted a strong first day recording four top-five finishes in the meet.

The distance medley relay team of McVey, McKee, Harden, and Molinaro won the event with a time of 10:20.39.

Senior Brandon Ike earned All-OAC honors in the pole vault, finishing second with a height of 15 feet 1.5 inches.

Junior Lucas Shumate also claimed All-OAC honors, finishing second in the weight throw with a pitch of 56 feet 8 inches.

In the 3,000-meter run, junior Kase Schalois took fifth with a time of 8:45.48.

Senior Steven Gohrband also claimed a top-eight finish in the meet, finishing seventh in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet 7.75 inches.

The second day of competition begins Saturday with field events at 10 am and track events at 2 pm.
