Men's Indoor Track & Field dominates 3,000-meter run, sits in first place after Day 1 at OAC Championships
BEXLEY - Junior Alan Bowsher finished first in the 3,000-meter run, leading five Polar Bears who finished in the Top 8, as the Ohio Northern men's indoor track & field team is in first place after Day 1 of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Capital.
The Polar Bears have 38 points, while Otterbein and Heidelberg are tied for second place with 18 points apiece.
Bowsher won the event in a season-best 8:50.11, and senior Eric Thatcher (3rd), senior Thomas Adam (4th), freshman Nick Baker (7th) and freshman Kevin Stack (8th) all scored points for the Polar Bears.
Thatcher's time of 8:52.81 was also a season best. Adam finished the race in 8:55.42, Baker in 9:04.04 and Stack in 9:05.41.
Ohio Northern also got a first-place finish from the distance medley relay team of seniors Jimmy O'Brien and Jeff Otte and freshmen Dan Smith and Tobias Deardorff. Their time of 10:18.20 was a season-best for Ohio Northern.
In the long jump, seniors Dominic Clouse and Justin Linzy scored points for the Polar Bears.
Clouse finished sixth with a jump of 20-11.25 and Linzy finished eighth with a season-best distance of 20-9.25.
Ohio Northern will look to continue its momentum from Day 1 into Day 2 tomorrow to capture the OAC Championship.
Competition will begin at 10 am at the Capital Center.
