Kathary, Kowalczyk win singles as Men's Tennis falls to Division II Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern men's tennis team dropped their opening match on its annual Spring Break Trip at Division II Florida Tech 7-2 on Monday afternoon.

The Polar Bears are now 0-2 on the season while the Panthers improve to 4-5.

Seniors Mike Kathary and Nick Kowalczyk each won singles matches to lead ONU.

Kathary won a tough match at No. 2 singles by a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 margin and Kowalczyk defeated Kermit Strachan 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

Northern dropped all three doubles matches to begin.

Kathary and junior Joey Frank lost a tough match at No. 1 doubles by a 9-7 score.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on Tuesday against regionally ranked Coe (Iowa) at 6:30 p.m. in Orlando.
