ADA Four Ohio Northern players were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women’s tennis for 2008 in voting conducted by the league’s 10 head coaches.
Senior Ashley Yontz (Springfield/Shawnee) and freshman Jacqueline Sammon (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) were Second Team honorees and sophomore Katie Gibbs (Hartville/North Canton Hoover) and freshman Liz Bajusz (North Royalton) were on the Honorable Mention All-OAC squad.
Yontz led the Polar Bears this season with a 20-6 singles record, playing predominantly at the No. 3 position. She is 18-11 in doubles and is 38-17 overall. In her four years as a Polar Bear, Yontz is 76-16 in singles, 54-20 in doubles and is 130-36 overall.
Sammon finished with a 16-11 singles record (playing mostly at No. 1 singles), an 18-11 record in doubles and a 34-22 mark overall this year.
Gibbs was 17-7 in singles, is 15-13 in doubles and is 32-20 overall this season, playing primarily at No. 4. In her two-year career at ONU, Gibbs is 23-11 in singles, 21-15 in doubles and is 44-26 overall.
She was also named the OAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on March 31 this season.
Bajusz had a team-best four wins in the OAC Tournament last weekend, going 2-1 at No. 3 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles. This season, she was 18-10 in singles, 17-12 in doubles and 35-22 overall.
