martin sets school draw control record, but Women's Lacrosse drops a 16-11 contest to Otterbein in OAC opener

ADA — Senior Elena Martin (Canfield) broke the the school's all-time leader in draw controls, but the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team fell 16-11 against Otterbein to open Ohio Athletic Conference play on a beautiful Wednesday evening.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (6-5 Overall, 0-1 OAC), Otterbein (7-2 Overall, 1-0 OAC).
- Venue: Dial-Roberson Stadium - Ada, Ohio.
The Game
- Sohomore Jaxsyn Murdock (Galloway/Alder) led Northern with five points on four goals and one assist.
- Martin added two goals and one assist in the contest.
- Freshman Gabby Juergens (Springfield/Northwestern) found the net with 3:28 left in the first period to put ONU on the scoreboard.
- After two Otterbein goals, Martin and Murdock each scored goals, cutting the lead to 8-4 in the second period.
- The Cardinals led 9-4 going into halftime.
- Murdock and freshman Amber Regan (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) opened the third period by each scoring goals to cut into the lead, making it 9-6.
- With 5:36 left in the third period, ONU scored 3 unanswered goals to cut the deficit to four, making it 13-9
- Otterbein was led by Ava Robey with 12 points on four goals and eight assists.
- Sophomore Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had 18 saves in goal for Ohio Northern.
- OU out-shot ONU 43-20 and had the ground ball advantage 24-21.

- Martin had a game-high 8 draw controls on Wednesday, giving her a team-best 44 for the season and a school record 224 in her 63-game career.
- She is also second in points with 167, in caused turnovers with 84, and is third all-time in ONU history with 41 assists.
- Martin leads the Polar Bears in scoring this season with 37 points on 27 goals and 10 assists.
- Lehman is second with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists.
- Senior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) is second in ONU history in career goals with 135 and third in points with 166.
- She also has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 44.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her third season at Ohio Northern and has a 25-21 record, a winning percentage of .543.
