Women's Lacrosse tops Wittenberg 15-3 on Saturday afternoon

ADA — Freshman Natalie Ionata (Silver Spring, Md./Holy Cross) led the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team with a five goal hat trick to 15-3 victory over Wittenberg on a chilly Saturday afternoon.

- Freshman Clarissa Hamilton (Marysville) scored her first collegiate hat trick to lead ONU.
- Senior Lydia Lehman (West Chester/Lakota West) added one goal and three assists for the Polar Bears.
- Trailing 2-1 Ohio Northern scored 10 consecutive goals, holding Wittenberg scoreless for 39 minutes, 58 seconds, to grab an 11-2 lead early in the fourth quarter.
- Sophomore Katie Knudsen (West Chester/Lakota West) and freshman Gabby Juergens (Springfield/Northwestern) each scored second period goals to give ONU a 4-2 advantage going into halftime.
- The Orange and Black went on a 7-0 run in the third period to extend the lead to 11-2 heading into the fourth.
- After a Tiger goal to open the 4th period, Northern responded with a 4-0 to end the game.
- Three different Tigers scored to lead Wittenberg.
- Sophomore Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) earned the win in goal with three saves in the contest.
- ONU out-shot WU 42-12 and had the ground ball advantage 29-19.

- Senior Elena Martin (Canfield) leads the Polar Bears in scoring this season with 10 points on eight goals and two assists.
- Senior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) is second with eight points on five goals and three assists.
- Hoersten is first in ONU history in career goals with 130 and second in points with 161.
- She also has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 42.
- Martin is third in career draw controls with 196.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her third season at Ohio Northern and has a 21-17 record, a winning percentage of .552.
