Junior Andrew Buderer wins pole vault, leads Men's Track and Field on first day of OAC Outdoor Championships

TIFFIN — Junior Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) won the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the pole vault to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team on the first day of the 2021 OAC Championships meet on Thursday at Hoernemann Stadium.
Buderer cleared 4.63 meters to win the second OAC title of his career.
The Polar Bears (34-7 overall) are in third place out of 10 teams with 38 points through seven events after the first day of competition.
Senior Travis Sutter (Sharpsburg/Fort Recovery) also earned All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:31.48.
The top three finishers in each even earn All-OAC honors.
Senior Jack Lehr (York, Pa./Dallastown) placed in two events, finishing fifth in the javelin with a toss of 45.81 meters and seventh in the discus with a heave of 39.34 meters.
Junior Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) was fifth in the pole vault by clearing 4.48 meters. Freshman Brandon Wise (Goshen, Ind./Concord) was ONU's third placer in the pole vault, clearing 4.13 meters.
Freshman Braden Schaser (Fostoria/Lakota) was seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:49.36
Junior Patrick Baker (Massillon/Jackson) was eighth in the 10,000-meter run in 31:30.23.
Senior Alex Sube (Wadsworth/Highland) was eighth in the discus with a distance of 39.10 meters.
The 4x800 relay team of freshman Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne), freshman Aaron Guzman (Lebanon) won the 800 in 2:01.71, freshman Ian Wallace (Bowling Green/Otsego) and senior Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) were fourth in 8:00.34.
"It was a great first day for us," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "We could not have asked for any better. Our guys came to the meet ready to compete and it showed. We have put ourselves in a great position heading in the second day tomorrow."
The final day of the Championships will get underway on Friday with field events at 11 am and running events at 3 pm.
