Men's Lacrosse competes relentlessly, but falls 15-14 at Baldwin Wallace in battle of league leaders

BEREA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team gave an outstanding effort, but fell short 15-14 at Baldwin Wallace in an incredible Ohio Athletic Conference contest on a cool Wednesday night.

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (9-6 Overall, 5-1 OAC), Baldwin Wallace (12-3 Overall, 7-0 OAC).
• Venue: George Finnie Stadium- Berea, Ohio. 

The Game  

• Junior Jack Chaney (Westerville/South) led the Polar Bears with six points on one goal and five assists.
• Senior Nathan Flynn (Springboro) had three goals and an assist to lead Northern. 
• Sophomore Eli Ferguson (Springboro) had three goals in the contest.
• Freshman Landon Laney (Durham, N.C./Westtown) put ONU on the scoreboard by finding the back of the net in the first period. 
• Baldwin Wallace took a 3-2 lead after the first period.
• Flynn found the only goal in the second period for ONU as BW held a 5-3 at halftime. 
• Senior Mark Mintzlaff (St. Louis, Mo./Country Day) found the net to start the third period for Ohio Northern. 
• After a Yellow Jacket goal, Hale and Ferguson each scored goals to tie the game 6-6.
• The Polar Bears scored four goals to Baldwin Wallaces two, giving ONU the 10-8 advantage going into the fourth period.
• Baldwin Wallace opened the fourth period on a 5-0, but Ohio Northern responded with a 3-0 run of their own, tying it at 13 with 6:18 left in the game. 
• BW scored with 5:49 left, but Chaney scored two minutes later to tie it at 14. 
• The Yellow Jackets broke the tie with 2:57 remaining on the game clock.
• Chaney gave an outstanding effort on a shot on goal with four seconds remaining.
• Sophomore Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) had 14 saves in goal for ONU. 
• BW out-shot ONU 45-39 and  won the ground ball battle 29-7. 

Notables

• Chaney leads the Polar Bears in points this season with 37 on 16 goals and 21 assists.
• Sexton leads the team in goals this season with 21.
• Frech has a team-high 16 caused turnovers this season. 
• He has 64 career caused turnovers, putting him third all-time.
• Junior Devin Halliday (Delaware/Hayes) has a team-high 118 face-off wins.
• He is also 5th all-time in face-off wins with 239.
• He also leads the team in ground balls this season with 46.
• Sophomore Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) ranks third all-time in ONU history with 289 saves, 21 wins, and 1668 minutes played in goal.
• Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his 11th season at Ohio Northern with a 117-59 record, a winning percentage of .665.
