NEW CONCORD— Ohio Northern baseball swept a double header at Muskingum 6-2 and 9-0 thanks to strong pitching efforts on Friday..

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern (15-7 Overall, 3-1 OAC), Muskingum (9 -14Overall, 1-3 OAC).
  • Venue: Wander Field - Ada, Ohio.

Game 1 Recap - W, 6-2

  • Aslyn Farinelli (Crown Point, Ind.) pitched a clean 7.0 innings of work where he only allowed 2 runs on his way to picking up the win for the Polar Bears 
  • Freshman Tyler Rinehart (Boonville, Ind./Boonville) blasted a 2-run shot to push the lead back to 6-2 in the top of the ninth to seal the game.
  • Senior Chase Armstrong (Lousiville, Ky./Trinity) gave Ohio Northern the early lead with a sacrifice fly
  • Senior Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) and freshman Carson Stevens (Wyoming) hit RBI singles in the sixth to grow the lead to 3-0.
  • The Muskies got 2 runs in the eighth to bring the game to 4-2.
  • Sophomore Jarrett Haan (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) threw 1.2 innings to pick up his first career save.

Game 2 Recap - W, 9-0

  • Sophomore Drew Tolfree (East Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic) picked up his second straight OAC win with 7.1 innings of shutout pitching in which he only allowed 2 hits. 
  • Northern rode 3-run third and seventh innings in the second game.
  • Rinehart hit his second home run of the day in the fourth inning to put ONU up 4-0.
  • Sophomore Ace Cocklin (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) got things going for Ohio Northern in the third with an RBI double that scored Stevens.
  • Stevens wrapped the inning up with an RBI single.
  • Conklin and Reed each picked up another RBI on the day in the sixth as Rinehart scored for the 4th time.
  • Armstrong recorded an RBI single in the seventh and later scored on a throwing error. Rinehart recorded his 4th and final RBI on the day in the seventh as well.
  • ONU outhit MU 20-9 on the day.

Notables

  • Rinehart lead the offense of ONU going 4-8 at the plate with 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored on the day.
  • Ohio Northern leads the all-time series with Muskingum 54-34.
  • Lapp leads the team this season with a .373 batting average, 20 RBIs, and nine doubles.
  • Armstrong is the all-time leader in home runs with 29. He is also second all-time in ONU history in walks (93), is 3rd in RBIs (133), is fifth in doubles (39) and is 8th in runs scored (126.)
