Women’s Cross Country places 9th of 37 teams at Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Ohio Northern women's cross country team raced to a ninth-place finish out of 37 teams at the Louisville Classic on Saturday afternoon at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

In the Silver Race (Pre-Nationals), the Polar Bears (36-13 overall) scored 257 points and posted a total time of 1:58:15.40 and an average time of 23:39.08 on the 6,000-meter course.

Senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stowe/Munroe Falls) led the seven-woman ONU contingent across the finish line, placing 18th overall out of 277 runners with a time of 22:48.3.

Senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) wasn't far behind, finishing 27th with a time of 23:00.7.

Senior Rue Whitmore (Mason) was 55th in 23:44.0, sophomore Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was 84th in 24:17.8, freshman Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) was 89th in 24:24.6, freshman Bailey Kreft (Sunbury/Buckeye Valley) was 111th in 24:45.5 and senior Sophia Thompson (Mount Vernon/Highland) was 146th in 25:22.2.

Evie Bultemeyer, of Trine (Ind.), won the individual title, finishing in a time of 21:32.3.

No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) won the team title with 43 points and had four runners place inside the top eight.

No. 14 Wisconsin-La Crosse was second with 70 points, No. 16 Calvin (Mich.) was third with 153 points, No. 21 Emory (Ga.) was fourth with 170 points and No. 7 MIT (Mass.) was fifth with 172 points.

Mount Union was the top finisher among Ohio Athletic Conference schools at the meet, placing just ahead of Ohio Northern in eighth with 250 points.

ONU also had five runners competing in the Blue Race (Open). The Polar Bears' top finisher in that race was freshman Larkin Warner (Findlay), who placed 176th out of 490 runners with a time of 20:30.2.

Ohio Northern's next race is the Oberlin Rumble, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m.
