ADA — Ohio Northern head volleyball coach Katie Kuhn and assistant coach Hannah Zuchowski will be leaving the program to pursue other opportunities.
Kuhn served as head coach at ONU for three seasons from 2020-22. She had record of 51-19 for a winning percentage of .729, which includes a 27-7 (.794) mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Kuhn also served nine seasons as an assistant coach for the Polar Bear volleyball team. She was also an adjunct professor in the Communication Arts department during that time.
"Ohio Northern University greatly appreciates the efforts of Katie and Hannah and the opportunities they provided for our student-athletes," ONU director of athletics Tom Simmons said. "Katie has been a vital part of ONU Volleyball as an All-American athlete and then as an assistant and head coach. We wish both of them well as they advance their coaching careers. Now we focus on the next step for our student athletes and the continued success of ONU Volleyball."
Kuhn is no stranger to the ONU volleyball program, as she was a four-year letterwinner and three-year team captain as a student-athlete from 2005 to 2008.
The two-time All-American finished her career third all-time in assists at 4,680. She was also the 2008 OAC Co-Player of the Year, the same season the Polar Bears reached the NCAA Final Four.
"I would like to thank Ohio Northern for being my home for the past almost 18 years," Kuhn said. "It was an honor to be a player here, transition into the assistant role and finally into the head coaching role. ONU is a special place and one that I am proud to be an alum of. This is a bittersweet transition for me, but I would like to thank everyone that I have crossed paths with here at ONU. So many have helped me grow as a human being and have supported the women's volleyball program. I have been blessed to coach so many special young women during my time here and wish only great success in the future. I look forward to the next challenge in life."
Hannah Zuchowski served as an assistant volleyball coach for three seasons at Ohio Northern from 2020-22.
She came to ONU after a three-year stint with Carthage (Wis.). She was the Lady Reds' volleyball graduate assistant in 2017 and 2018 before enlisting as an assistant in 2019. Zuchowski was a part of an NCAA Sweet Sixteen (2017) and Final Four (2019) appearance while at Carthage.
The Polar Bears finished the 2022 season with a 16-10 record and were 6-3 in the OAC.
A search for a new head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
