No. 14 Volleyball runs win streak to eight with sweep of John Carroll

ADA — Sophomore Sydney Eggleton (Southfield, Mich./Farmington) had 11 kills and senior Melina Woods (Ada) and added 10 kills as the No. 14 Ohio Northern volleyball team swept John Carroll 25-23, 25-14, 25-14 on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 17-1 overall and remain in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 5-0 record, while the Blue Streaks fall to 10-14, 1-4.
Sophomore Kassie Bowmar (Sunbury/Big Walnut) added eight kills and freshman Erin Wagner (Massillon/Perry) had seven kills for ONU.
JCU was led by Jillian Kellick with eight kills.
John Carroll started fast in the first set, leading 10-5. But ONU rallied with an 8-1 run to take a 13-10 lead.
The Blue Streaks led 22-20, but the Polar Bears scored five of the final six points to win the set 25-23.
The visitors again took an early lead in Set 2, leading 6-2. Again ONU rallied, scoring 12 of the next 14 points, to go ahead 14-8.
Northern scored five of the final six points to grab the set 25-14.
Set three was a tight affair for the first 27 points, as ONU led 14-13 when Northern rattled off 10 consecutive points to grab a 24-13 advantage.
The Polar Bears hit .311 for the match with 43 kills and 11 errors on 103 attacks, while the Blue Streaks hit .083 with 27 kills and 19 errors on 96 attempts.
Ohio Northern returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Heidelberg for a match at Sieberling Gymnasium.
