No. 13 Volleyball sweeps Marietta for fifth straight 3-set victory

MARIETTA — The No. 13 Ohio Northern volleyball team added to some impressive streaks Saturday in its 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 victory over Marietta at Ban Johnson Arena.
The Polar Bears (14-1 overall, 3-0 OAC) ran their current win streak to five games — all of which have come in three-set sweeps — while keeping their unbeaten all-time record against the Pioneers (3-11 overall, 0-1 OAC) intact at 58-0.
Freshman Taylor Baxter (Bellevue) led the way for ONU with 10 kills, three blocks and two aces while hitting .600.
Senior Melina Woods (Ada) and sophomore Sydney Eggleton (Southfield, Mich./Farmington) added eight kills each.
Freshman Rachel Jennings (Novi, Mich.) tallied 15 digs and two aces while senior Kiki Carle (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) added 24 assists.
Carle is now just 10 assists shy of tying Kelly Smerekanich's 1,567 for 10th on the program's all-time leaderboard in that category.
Marietta got a game-high 11 kills from Mia Silva to go with 12 digs from Braya Elsea and 30 assists from Jenna Szabelski.
The Polar Bears hit .250 in the first set, .400 in the second and .278 in the third and finished with a .313 hitting percentage, tallying 42 kills and 11 errors on 99 total attacks.
The Pioneers hit .198 in the match.
Ohio Northern returns to the court on Wednesday when it hosts Baldwin Wallace for a 7 p.m. match in the ONU Sports Center.
