Bloomington, Ill. — The No. 11 Ohio Northern volleyball team finished with a 3-0 record at the Illinois Wesleyan Holiday Inn invitational after a 25-11, 25-11, 25-18 victory over Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Saturday morning and a 25-19, 25-12, 25-11 win over Monmouth (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon at the Shirk Center.
The victories improve the Polar Bears to 8-0 on the season.
In the opener against RHIT, freshman freshman Taylor Baxter (Bellevue) led a balanced ONU attack with eight kills.
Senior Melina Woods (Ada), sophomore Sydney Eggleton (Southfield, Mich./Farmington) and freshman Emma Strozewski (Lakeville, Minn./North) all had seven kills each.
Freshman Lauren James (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) had three kills and a career-high five blocks as well.
Northern finished the match hitting .318 with 37 kills and 10 errors on 85 attempts. RHIT hit -.040 with 22 kills and 26 errors on 101 attacks.
Against Monmouth (Ill.), Strozewski had a match-high 15 kills, which was more than one third of the 44 kills registered by the entire ONU squad.
The Polar Bears fell behind 11-4 in the opening set, but then outscored MU 71-31 the rest of the way to cruise to the victory.
Ohio Northern hit .233 with 44 kills and 14 errors on 129 attacks and Monmouth hit .000 with just 17 kills and 17 errors on 115 attempts.
The Polar Bears will return home on Wednesday to host Defiance in a 7 p.m. match at the ONU Sports Center.
