ADA — Junior Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) and senior Kayla Silva (Westerville/South) were named All-Great Lakes Region in women's indoor track and field for 2022 by the USTFCCCA.
To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top five individuals in their respective region on the final TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top three relay teams was also selected for distinction.
Schatzle earned All-Region honors in the pole vault after clearing a height of 3.72 meters at the Polar Bear Final Qualifier meet on March 4. That mark ranks fifth all-time at ONU and qualified her for the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. This marks the first indoor All-Region accolade for Schatzle, who earned the honor in the outdoor pole vault in 2021.
Silva earned All-Region honors in the 60 meters after posting a time of :07.82 in the Polar Bear Final Qualifier. She now has four indoor All-Region accolades joining those she earned in the 60 in 2019 and 2021 and in the 200 meters in 2021. The three-time indoor All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer placed second in the 60 at this year's OAC Championships, and her top mark of :07.82 is a program record in the event. She also ranks second all-time at ONU in the 55-meter and 200-meter dash events.
As a team, the Polar Bears finished third at the 2022 OAC Indoor Championships and will open their outdoor season on March 26 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
