This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern women's track and field team continues its 2019 outdoor campaign this Saturday at the Bob Kahn Invitational, hosted by Oberlin ... Field events are slated for a 10:30 a.m. start with the men's javelin and the women's hammer throw competitions ... Running events will get underway at 1 p.m. with a combined men's and women's 10,000-meter run ... The Polar Bears enter the weekend sporting a 36-5 overall record after finishing third last weekend in the 29-team Emory (Ga.) Classic in Atlanta ... ONU received four runner-up performances from senior Avery Ewing, junior All-American Maggie Krause, freshman Rue Whitmore, and the 4x800-meter relay squad ... Ewing finished second amid a 56-person field in the 800-meter run with a 2:17.86 clocking ... In the field, Krause was the runner-up in the pole vault after clearing 3.60 meters in her first outdoor competition this season ... For her performance, she was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the third time in 2019 ... Her effort tied for 17th-best on the NCAA Division III performance list and topped the OAC leaderboards by 0.21 meters (approximately 8 inches) ... Kayla Silva completed an ONU sweep of the OAC weekly awards after claiming her first career OAC Track Athlete of the Week honor ... She set a new freshman class record and the second-fastest time in Ohio Northern program history in the 100-meter dash with a :12.32 effort, which also set the fastest time in the league ... In addition, Silva set the fourth-fastest time for a freshman in the 200-meter dash (:26.67) and aided the 4x100-meter relay to a fourth-place finish over the weekend ... Whitmore brought home runner-up honors in the 10,000-meter run with a 39:44.88 mark, the fifth-fastest time for a freshman in program history ... Meanwhile, junior Madeleine Routhier, senior Michaela Fox, sophomore Chyanne Retcher, and Ewing took second in the 4x800 in 9:46.83.
