Polar Bear women finish third at 2010 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

ALLIANCE -- Freshman Alison Steinbrunner won the 1500-meter run to lead the Ohio Northern women to a third place finish at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Polar Bears (27-19) finished with 90.5 points. Mount Union won the team title with 132, Marietta was second with 124 and Capital was fourth with 87.
Steinbrunner won the 1500 in 4:47.14.
Freshman Vicki Moga finished in a three-way tie for first place in the high jump, clearing 5' 3 3/4". She finished third via the tiebreaker procedure and earned All-Conference honors.
"The women had an outstanding meet," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "The ladies really competed well all weekend. We came into nthe championships banged up and shorthanded. So to finish third was a very good result for us."
Five other Polar Bears earned All-Conference honors with top-3 finishes at the championships.
Senior Rebecca Silverstein and Steinbrunner earned All-OAC honors with second place finishes in the 5000 run, tying with identical times of 18:25.98.
Silverstein also earned All-Conference accolades with a third place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:41.35.
Senior Brittany Farber earned All-OAC honors in the 800 run, placing second in 2:17.38.
Senior Nicole Hope and junior Aubrie Stechschulte were named All-Conference in the pole vault, finishing 2-3 by clearing NCAA Provisional heights of 12' 2" and 11"7 3/4", respectively.
The 4x800 relay team of junior Amanda Binkey, Smith, Steinbrunner and Farber also earned All-OAC kudos with a second place finish in 9:27.75.
The Polar Bears will return to action next weekend at the Toledo Invitational.
