Women’s Soccer closes out regular season with 3-0 win over Mount Union

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team closed out its 2021 regular-season schedule with a bang on Saturday, scoring a 3-0 win over Mount Union at Kerscher Stadium.

The victory improves the Polar Bears to 11-4-3 overall and 7-1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and earns them the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next week's OAC Tournament.

The Purple Raiders fall to 10-6-1 overall and 6-3-0 in the conference.

Ohio Northern got goals from juniors Lauren Naso (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Cienna Kuhn (Elida) and sophomore Alaina Casey (Beavercreek/Carroll).

Sophomores Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) and Bri Straus (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) assisted on Kuhn's goal.

Naso kicked off the scoring with her first goal of the season 19:42 into the game, and the Polar Bears took that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Casey made it a 2-0 lead when she found the back of the net 20:59 into the second half for her fifth goal of the season, tying sophomore Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll) for the team lead.

Kuhn closed out the scoring with her third goal of the season with 2:34 remaining in the contest.

The ONU defense proved stout all game long, limiting the Purple Raiders to just one shot in helping senior goalkeeper Kristy Catrine (Springboro) secure her OAC-leading 11th shutout of the season.

Saturday's shutout gives Catrine 19 for her career, moving her into a tie with Emily Brodict ('12-'16) for sixth place on ONU's all-time leaderboard.

The Polar Bears finished the game with a 14-1 edge in shots and 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Ohio Northern will return to the field on Thursday to host an OAC Tournament semifinal game at Kerscher Stadium.
