ADA -- Sophomore Alaina Casey (Beavercreek/Carroll) scored with 13:33 left in the match to lift the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Denison on a wet and windy Wednesday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-2-1 overall, while the Big Red fall to 4-3-0.
Casey broke the scoreless tie when she knocked in a cross from freshman Elizabeth Pierce (Liberty Township/Mount Notre Dame) in the 77th minute.
Pierce made a great play to steal the ball from the DU defender deep in the box and drove to the goal. She touched a nifty pass in front of the goal, which Casey one-touched from close range for the winning goal.
Senior Kristy Catrine (Springboro) had four saves in goal to post her fourth shutout of the season and the 12th of her career.
Denison out-shot Ohio Northern 8-3 and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at Hanover (Ind.) at 1 p.m.
