ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team defeated No. 8-ranked Thomas More (Ky.) 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears are now 4-4-1 while the Saints fall to 8-1-0.
The winning goal for ONU came in the 25th minute as freshman Anna Niemeyer played a deflected ball within the 18 to give the Polar Bears an early 1-0 lead.
Thomas More had a chance to strike first in the 13th minute as Abby Osborne sent a shot just over the cross bar.
Thomas More out shot the Polar Bears in the first half 5-3.
Ohio Northern spent most of the second half playing defense as Thomas More held them to just two shots.
The Saints out shot the Polar Bears 20-5 in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Brodict (4-4-1) recorded six saves in the match and picked up her second shut out of the season.
The Polar Bears move to 4-0 lifetime against the Spartans at home.
Ohio Northern is next in action on Saturday Oct. 4th as it opens OAC play with John Carroll at Kerscher Stadium.
