CINCINNATI — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team put on a solid showing in a 2-1 loss at NCAA Division I foe Xavier on Sunday at the XU Soccer Complex.
The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) were led by junior Alex Weirich, who scored the squad's only goal in the match.
Ohio Northern was able to strike first on Weirich's goal in the 24th minute off a corner kick.
ONU held Xavier scoreless until the 44th minute when Maddy John connected off an assist from Megan Dalton.
Xavier's Katie Schweer would score 9:28 into second half to secure the win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Brodict had eight saves in the match and moves to 2-1 on the season. Senior Kristina Klusek had a team-high three of its shots for ONU as the Musketeers (3-3) outshot Ohio Northern 14-5 in the match.
The Polar Bears are in action again on Tuesday at 4 pm as they travel to Kenyon.
