Junior Brad Taton leads Wrestling to third place finish at 36th annual ONU Invitational

ADA — Junior Brad Taton (Mentor/Lake Catholic) placed third in the 133 pound weight class to lead the Ohio Northern Wrestling team to a third place finish at the 36th annual ONU Invitational on Saturday.
The Polar Bears had a strong outing, finishing the tournament with 13 placers in nine of the 10 weight classes.
The tournament featured 12 teams from NCAA II, III, and NAIA schools. The Polar Bears finished third with 144 points, Tiffin was the tournament runner-up with 145 points, and the Champion with 166 points was Heidelberg.
Taton placed third at the 133 pound weight class with a 3-1 record.
The Polar Bears had five wrestlers place fourth in the tournament.
Freshman Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) was fourth in the 141 pound weight class with a 4-2 record, junior Evan Morgan (Cincinnati/Elder) was fourth in the 149-pound weight class with a 3-1 record, junior Seth Meyer (Defiance) was fourth at 165 pounds with a 4-2 record, senior Kyler Deeter (Covington) was fourth in the 174-pound weight class with a mark of 4-2, and freshman heavyweight Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) was fourth with a record of 4-2.
Placing fifth for the Polar Bears was freshman Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin) in the 125-pound weight class with a record of 4-2, and junior Evan Hickey (Blanchester/Wilmington) at 197 pounds with a record of 3-2.
Freshman Brock Jones (Perrysburg) finished the tournament in sixth place with a record of 3-1 at 157 pounds.
Placing seventh for Ohio Northern was freshman Trevor Reed (New London) at 149 pounds with a 3-2 record and sophomore Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) in the 174-pound weight class with a record of 3-2.
Junior Dustin Funk (Saline, Mich.) placed eighth place in the 157-pound weight class going 2-3 on the day.
The Polar Bears return to action on Friday when they host Manchester (Ind.) at 7:30 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
