Eight Polar Bears place as Wrestling competes at Alma (Mich.) Open

ALMA, Mich. — Eight Ohio Northern wrestlers placed in their respective weight classes to lead Ohio Northern at the Alma (Mich.) Open on Saturday at Art Smith Arena.

The tournament was not scored.

Senior Michael Pawlitz and sophomore Tyler Gargano led the Polar Bears with runner-up finishes.

Pawlitz finished second at 197 pounds with a 2-1 record and one pin and Gargano was second at 174 pounds.

Gargano reached the finals with a tech fall and a decision and fell to Sean Brown of Indiana University in the finals.

Senior Cody Harting finished third at the 141 pound weight class with a 5-1 record and three pins.

Junior Cody Lovejoy was third at heavyweight. He was 4-1 on the day with three pins.

Sophomore Colt Lovejoy finished third in the 165-pound weight class. He went 4-1 with a pair of pins.

Freshman David Woolley was fourth in the 184-pound weight class, registering a 3-2 mark with one fall.

Sophomore Shaun Lee finished fifth at 141 pounds and sophomore Kody Bellamy was fifth at 197 pounds.

Both men had 3-2 records with one pin.

The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday with a home meet against Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll at 7:30 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
