Wrestling downs Ferrum (Va.), Washington & Lee (Va.) in tri-match

LEXINGTON, Va. — The Ohio Northern wrestling team defeated Ferrum (Va.) and Washington & Lee (Va.) in a tri-match Saturday afternoon as Washington & Lee's Doremus Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (4-2) defeated Ferrum 29-12 and topped W&L 32-6.

Against Ferrum (1-1), the Panthers took a 12-4 lead, only to see ONU win the final six bouts to take the match 29-12.

Junior Kyle Brezovec started the rally with a major decision at 157 pounds.

Junior Brandon Howes then won by decision at 165 and sophomore Tyler Gargano won by decision at 174 to give ONU a 16-12 lead.

Freshman David Woolley then posted a pin at 184 pounds to make it a 22-12 match and sophomore Kody Bellamy followed with a decision at 197 to put ONU up 25-12.

Junior Cody Lovejoy ended the match with a major decision at heavyweight.

Against the host Generals (0-4), won by forfeit at 133 pounds to put ONU up 6-0 and freshman Gennar Feucht won by tech fall at 149 to put Northern ahead 11-3.

Sophomore Colt Lovejoy won by decision at 165 pounds as the Polar Bears won the final five weight classes to put the match away.

Gargano won by decision at 174, Woolley won by decision at 184, senior Michael Pawlitz won by fall at 197 and Cody Lovejoy won by fall at heavyweight.

The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday with a home match against NCAA Division I foe Davidson at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
