UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team fell 20-11 on the road at John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference battle on a warm and stormy Saturday afternoon. 

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern (10-6 overall, 3-3 OAC), John Carroll (14-0 overall, 6-0 OAC).
  • Venue: Don Shula Stadium - University Heights, Ohio.
  • The contest was delayed by 45 minutes, early into the third period.

The Game

  • Junior Elena Martin (Canfield) finished the contest with three goals and one assist.
  • Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) had one goal and one assist to help ONU. 
  • Three different Polar Bears scored two goals in the game.  
  • Senior Alise Callahan (Cedarburg, Wis) found the net at 12:33 in the first period to put ONU on the scoreboard.
  • After a JCU goal, Northern scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead.
  • The Blue Streaks scored two goals, then junior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) scored at 7:28 in the second period to tie the contest at 5-5.
  • Junior Lydia Lehman (West Chester/Lakota West) scored with 2:01 left in the first half to cut the lead, making it 8-6.
  • Burden scored at 14:22 to start the second half for ONU and cut into the lead, making it 16-7.
  • After the Blue Streaks answered, the Polar Bears went on a 4-1 run to fight back and cut into the lead 18-11.
  • John Carroll had four different players score three goals. 
  • Senior Emma LoGiudice (Wooster) had a game-high five ground balls and caused turnovers with three.
  • Freshman Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had 16 saves to help the Orange and Black. 
  • JCU out-shot ONU 46-21 and had the ground ball advantage 32-20. 

Notables

  • Burden is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 228 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 123 assists and is second with 105 career goals.
  • Burden leads the team in points this season with 70 and is fifth in the OAC. 
  • She has a team-high 30 assists this season and is fifth in the OAC. 
  • JCU leads the all-time series 11-0. 
  • LoGiudice has a team-high 21 caused turnovers this season.
  • Hoersten has nine hat tricks this season and 17 in her career.
  • She is first in ONU history in career goals with 121 and second in points with 148. 
  • Hoersten also leads the team this season in goals with 54 and is tied for third in the OAC.
  • She has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 40.
  • Martin leads the team with 65 draw controls this year and is third all-time with 174.
  • Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her second season at Ohio Northern and has a 19-14 record, a winning percentage of .575.
