Burden scores her 100th career goal as Women's Lacrosse falls 21-7 to Capital

ADA — Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) scored her 100th career goal and finished with five goals, but the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team fell 21-7 against Captial on a sunny and cool Saturday afternoon. 

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (10-5 overall, 3-2 OAC), Capital (8-4 overall, 4-1 OAC).
• Venue: Dial Roberson Stadium - Ada, Ohio.

The Game

• Junior Elena Martin (Canfield) finished the contest with one goal and two assists.  
• Burden found the net first for the Polar Bears with a goal at 10:14 in the first period.
• After a Capital goal Martin scored at 7:27 in the first period to cut into the lead and made it 4-2.
• With 10:53 left in the first half, junior Mackenzie Miller (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) found Burden, who scored to cut the lead to 11-4.
• Capital led ONU 15-4 going into halftime. 
• The Comets would have a 18-4 lead heading into the fourth period.
• The Orange and Black and CU would trade goals in the fourth with Burden scoring two of the three for ONU. 
• Capital was led by Grace Osborn, who had 10 goals and two assists. 
• Senior Emma LoGiudice (Wooster) had a game-high five ground balls in the contest. 
• Freshman Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and sophomore Jenna Messinger (Springboro) combined for six saves to help the Polar Bears.
• CU out-shot ONU 33-17 and had the ground ball advantage 20-17. 

Notables

• Burden is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 226 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 122 assists and is second with 104 career goals.
• Burden leads the team in points this season with 68 and is fourth in the OAC. 
• She has a team-high 29 assists this season and is fourth in the OAC. 
• CU leads the all-time series 10-0. 
• Martin and LoGiudice each have a team-high 18 caused turnovers this season.
• Hoersten has nine hat tricks this season and 17 in her career.
• She is first in ONU history in career goals with 119 and second in points with 146. 
• Hoersten also leads the team this season in goals with 52 and is third in the OAC
• She has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 39.
• Martin leads the team with 62 draw controls this year and is third all-time with 171.
• The game was originally scheduled for 1 pm but was moved to 4 pm.
• Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her second season at Ohio Northern and has a 19-13 record, a winning percentage of .593.
