Alfes, Meister finish 1-2 as Women's Golf wins Bluffton Fall Classic

BLUFFTON — The Ohio Northern women's golf team returned to action for the first time in 34 days, taking first place by a slim 3-stroke margin at the Bluffton Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday.

The Basics

• Ohio Northern finished first of eight teams with 657 total strokes.
• ONU Season Record: 5-1.
• Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) was second with a 660, Anderson (Ind.) was third with a 707 and Tiffin was fourth with a 712.
• Venue: Bluffton G.C. - Bluffton, Ohio.

ONU Individuals

• Senior Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) won Medalist honors for the second time this season, going 79-74—153 in the 43-woman field 
• Sophomore Mallory Meister (Milan/Edison) tied for 2nd with an 82-80.
• Playing as an individual, freshman Danika Eagle (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) tied for fifth with an 86-80.
• Sophomore Taylor Blackburn (Liberty Township/Lakota West) tied for 12th with an 87-84.
• Freshman Addison Williams (Bristolville/Bristol) also tied for 12th with an 81-91.

Notables

• Meister carded her first career hole-in-one amid day 2 on Bluffton's hole #4. She used a pitching wedge from 123 yards for the ace.
• Freshman Danika Eagle (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) shot her college career best on Sunday with an 80.
• Head coach Chad Bucci is 530-314-2 in his 13th season at the helm of the ONU women's golf team, a winning percentage of .627.
