Women's Basketball drops defensive battle at No. 8 Baldwin Wallace in OAC Tournament Semifinals

BEREA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell 49-34 in a defensive battle at No. 8-ranked Baldwin Wallace in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals on Thursday evening.

The Game

• Sophomore Charlotte Pauling (Beavercreek) led the Polar Bears with 14 points, two steals and two blocks.
• Junior Gabi Croft (Spencerville) had a team-high eight rebounds and also had two blocks.
• Sophomore Emerson Gray (Liberty Center) also led the team with two steals and added eight points.
• Junior Lexee Brewer had a team-best two assists.
• The Yellow Jackets were led by Laura McCoy with nine points.
• Baldwin Wallace got out to a 7-0 lead and held ONU scoreless for the first 4:42 of the quarter.
• A 7-2 run from Northern cut the Yellow Jacket lead to two points with 2:26 left in the quarter.
• BW led 11-9 at the end of the first.
• Two free throws from Pauling to start the second quarter tied the game at 11.
• Ohio Northern held Baldwin Wallace to only free throws during the second quarter until they finally scored a layup with 3:47 left in the half.
• The Yellow Jackets then hit back-to-back 3-pointers to take a 22-15 lead with 1:07 left in the second quarter.
• BW led 24-19 at halftime.
• A three from Gray started scoring for the Polar Bears in the second half and cut BW's lead to four points.
• Baldwin Wallace led 35-33 after three quarters.
• The Yellow Jackets pulled away with back-to-back threes with 7:13 left in the game, giving them a 43-33 lead, their biggest of the night up until that point.
• Baldwin Wallace held the Polar Bears to one point in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
• Ohio Northern made 11-of-49 field goals for 22.4 percent and was 2-of-11 from beyond the arc for 18.2 percent, while Baldwin Wallace was 17-of-57 from the floor for 29.8 percent and finished 6-of-28 on 3-pointers for 21.4 percent.
• The Polar Bears made 10-of-12 free throws for 83.3 percent and the Yellow Jackets were 9-of-15 from the line for 60.0 percent.
• BW out-rebounded ONU 42-40.
