Emerson Gray scores 21 to lead Women's Basketball in 56-50 win over Mount Union

ADA — Sophomore Emerson Gray (Liberty Center) scored 21 points to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team in a 56-50 win over Mount Union on Saturday afternoon on their Bake a Difference and Alumni Day.
- Records: Ohio Northern (6-12 Overall, 5-4 OAC), Mount Union (13-5 Overall, 5-4 OAC).

The Game
- Gray also had a team-high three assists and added seven rebounds.
- Junior Lexee Brewer (Sidney) had 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and led the Polar Bears with eight boards.
- Junior Courtney Sumner (Ada) had a team-best three steals.
- Mount Union was led by Chelsea Evanich with 11 points.
- Northern led 47-39 with 1:31 left in the game.
- The Purple Raiders nailed three consecutive 3-pointers in the final 1:01 of the contest, but ONU would counter by making 9-of-10 free throws in the final 1:11 to keep UMU at bay.
- A three from Brewer to end the first quarter gave Northern a 9-8 lead going into the second.
- In the first 4:00 of the second quarter, there were six lead changes and one tie, but ONU went on a 7-0 run, including another 3-pointer from Brewer, making the score 21-15 halfway through the quarter.
- Mount Union made a layup to break Northern's scoring streak, and neither team scored for the final 4:55 of the half.
- The Polar Bears led 21-17 going into halftime.
- ONU started the third quarter with an 8-0 run, including back-to-back threes from sophomore Katelyn Stechschulte (Findlay) and Brewer.
- Northern led 38-29 at the end of the third quarter.
- The Polar Bears started scoring with a 6-0 run, and a putback from freshman Taylor Wagner (Versailles) gave ONU its first lead of the game, going up 6-4 with 3:49 left in the first quarter.
- ONU was 12-of-16 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, with Gray going 10-for-11 to finish out the game for the Polar Bears.
- Ohio Northern made 16-of-47 field goals for 34.0 percent and was 6-of-17 from beyond the arc for 35.3 percent, while Mount Union was 19-of-57 from the floor for 33.3 percent and finished 3-of-20 on 3-pointers for 15.0 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 18-of-23 free throws for 78.3 percent and the Raiders were 9-of-17 from the line for 52.9 percent.
