Women's Basketball falls at Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) Tip-Off in season opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell 82-42 to Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) at the W&J Tip-Off on Friday night in its season opener.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (0-1 Overall), Washington & Jefferson (2-0 Overall).

- Junior Courtney Sumner (Ada) led the Polar Bears with 12 points and two steals.
- Sophomore Charlotte Pauling (Beavercreek) had a team-high four rebounds.
- Sophomore Emerson Gray (Liberty Center) led Northern with three assists.
- The Presidents were led by Stellanie Loutsion with 21 points.
- W&J jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but a 5-0 run gave ONU a 5-4 lead with 7:59 left in the first quarter.
- A layup from junior Gabi Croft (Spencerville) tied the game 9-9 with 3:32 left in the first.
- The Polar Bears trailed 17-11 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Presidents started the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 27-13 lead with 5:58 left in the half.
- Washington & Jefferson led 38-20 at halftime.
- Sumner hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter and started off the fourth quarter with another, but the Polar Bears trailed 56-33 with 9:05 left to play.
- Ohio Northern made 18-of-49 field goals for 36.7 percent and was 5-of-19 from beyond the arc for 26.3 percent, while Washington & Jefferson was 31-of-62 from the floor for 50.0 percent and finished 12-of-27 on 3-pointers for 44.4 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 1-of-2 free throws for 50.0 percent and the Presidents were 8-of-9 from the line for 88.9 percent.
