Women’s Basketball falls at No. 15 Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — After a tightly contested first half, the Ohio Northern women's basketball team ultimately fell 58-41 to No. 15 Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears fall to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the OAC while the Yellow Jackets improve to 10-2 and 7-0.

Senior starters Alissa Stahler (Lima/Shawnee) and Jaidyn Hale (Lima/Bath) scored six points apiece while junior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added six points off the bench for ONU.

Sophomore Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) added five points and a team-high five rebounds.

Lilly Edwards paced Baldwin Wallace with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Megan Hensel added 15 points and three rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, but ONU took an 18-16 edge on a layup from Serbin with 7:39 left in the second period.

Capped by a 3-pointer from Caely Ressler, a 12-4 BWU run put the Yellow Jackets up 28-22 with 2:28 left in the period, and they went into halftime leading 30-26.

Baldwin Wallace took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring ONU 20-5 to take a 50-31 lead into the fourth period en route to the victory.

Ohio Northern made 16-of-47 field goals for 34% and was 1-of-12 from 3-point range for 8.3%, while the Yellow Jackets made 20-of-57 field goals for 35.1% and were 8-of-24 from beyond the arc for 33.3%.

The Polar Bears were 8-of-11 from the foul line for 72.7% while BWU was 10-of-18 for 55.6%.

BWU out-rebounded ONU by a 36-32 margin, while the Polar Bears finished with a 26-18 edge in points in the paint.

Northern returns to the court on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum as part of a women's-men's doubleheader.
