TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern softball team at Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon to wrap up its season. ONU fell 15-3 in the opener and 6-3 in the nightcap.

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern (9-29 Overall), Heidelberg (26-13 Overall).
  • Venue: Frann's Field — Tiffin, Ohio.

Game 1 — L, 3-15 (5 innings)

  • Heidelberg scored one run in the first inning and four runs in the second.
  • Northern scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning.
  • Junior Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) hit an RBI ground out to score freshman Alexa Ray (Worthington/Bishop Watterson), sophomore Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge) scored on an error and freshman Kyla Fry (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) hit an RBI double.
  • The Student Princes then scored seven runs in the bottom of the third and three runs in the fourth.
  • HU out-hit ONU 14-4

Game 2 — L, 3-6

  • Heidelberg scored four runs in the second inning.
  • ONU scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning.
  • Hannahs stole home, Schroeder bunted to score senior Ashley Simko (Lebanon) and freshman Karlie Jannings (Lapel, Ind.) stole third and scored on an error.
  • The Student Princes scored one more run in each the fourth and fifth innings.
  • ONU out-hit HU 10-9.

Notables

  • Ohio Northern is now 66-25 all-time against Heidelberg.
  • Schroeder led the team this season in batting at .360, followed by Ray at .349.
  • Freshman Ellie Mason (New Philadelphia) batted .287 with a team-best 23 RBIs.
  • Ray and Mason each led the Polar Bears with 11 doubles.
  • Hannahs led the team with 16 stolen bases this season.
  • Senior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) finished her career tied for 16th all-time at ONU with 150 career base hits, tied for 10th in home runs with 14 and tied for 9th in doubles with 35. 
  • Ohio Northern is in its 59th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 1,025-732-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .582.
  • Head coach Summer Collins is in her second season at Ohio Northern with a 29-52 record.
