WESTERVILLE — Senior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to break a 1-1 tie and help the Ohio Northern softball team split a doubleheader at Otterbein on Wednesday afternoon. The Polar Bears won the nightcap 3-1 after the Cardinals took the opener 6-2.

Game 1 — L, 2-6

  • Otterbein scored three runs in the third and two more in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and take a 6-1 lead.
  • Freshman Alexa Ray (Worthington/Bishop Watterson) hit a sac fly in the top of the second to score sophomore Alyssa Hochstetler (Akron/Springfield) to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Senior Kylie King (London/Alder) singled home sophomore Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich.) in the top of the sixth to get ONU within 6-2.
  • ONU out-hit OU 7-6.

Game 2 — W, 3-1

  • Wilson broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run to lead off the top of the seventh to give ONU a 2-1 lead.
  • Ray followed with an RBI double to score freshman Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge) with an insurance run to make it 3-1.
  • Flory got the Polar Bears on the board with a single to score sophomore Maggie Arno (Williamsburg) to tie the game 1-1 in the fourth.
  • Sophomore Avery Neth (Williamsburg) (4-4) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts to earn the win in the circle.
  • ONU out-hit OU 10-6.

Notables

  • Ohio Northern is now 64-24 all-time against Otterbein.
  • Through 24 games this season, Ray leads the team in batting at .369, followed by junior Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) at .317.
  • Freshman Ellie Mason (New Philadelphia) is batting .308 with a team-best 14 RBI.
