ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a doubleheader with No. 2-ranked Trine (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears fell 5-3 in game one and dropped game two 10-1.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (6-10 Overall), #2 Trine (15-1).
- Venue: Durbin-Hileman Stadium — Ada, Ohio.
Game 1 — L, 3-5
- Trine kicked off scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, then scored one more run in the second inning.
- Northern tied the game up with three runs in the bottom of the third.
- Senior Kylie King (London/Jonathan Alder) hit an RBI double to score senior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) to put the Polar Bears on the board.
- Freshman Molly Goudy (Hilliard/Darby) then singled through the left side to score King.
- Freshman Alexa Ray (Worthington/Bishop Watterson) hit an RBI single to center to tie the game.
- The Thunder took the lead back with a solo shot in the third inning, then scored one more run in the top of the seventh.
- Sophomore Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich.) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Polar Bears.
- Freshman Sydney Freiberg (Yorkville, Ill.) (1-2) pitched a complete game and racked up five strikeouts.
- TU out-hit ONU 10-9.
Game 2 — L, 1-10
- Trine scored one run in the top of the first, two in the third, four in the fifth and three in the sixth.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, freshman Ellie Mason (New Philadelphia) doubled to right center to score sophomore Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge).
- Freshman Brooklyn Osterloh (Minster) (1-5) started in the circle for the Polar Bears, striking out two in 4.1 innings.
- Sophomore Avery Neth (Williamsburg) pitched 1.2 innings and recorded one strikeout.
- TU out-hit ONU 11-6.

- Ohio Northern is now 8-16 all-time against Trine.
- Mason leads the team in batting at .333, followed by sophomore Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) (.318) and Ray (.315).
