Softball tops Muskingum, falls to No. 19 Baldwin Wallace to wrap up season on second day of OAC Tournament

BEREA — The Ohio Northern softball team saw its season come to an end as the Polar Bears split games on the second day of the 2025 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The No. 3-seeded Polar Bears beat No. 4-seeded Muskingum in its first game of the day, 9-3. ONU then fell 7-1 to No. 1-seeded and No. 19-ranked Baldwin Wallace in Game 5 of the Tournament.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (20-23 Overall), Muskingum (15-20 Overall), #19 Baldwin Wallace (31-3 Overall).
- Venue: BW Softball Field — Berea, Ohio.
Game 1 - W, 9-3
- Muskingum scored two runs in the top of the first inning.
- In the bottom of the inning, senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) hit a 2-RBI double and sophomore Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) hit an RBI single to take a 3-2 lead.
- The Muskies scored one more run in the top of the third inning.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Polar Bears scored five runs, including an RBI single from freshman Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), a 2-RBI single from freshman Jaylee Fansler (Plainfield, Ind./Avon).
- ONU scored one more run in the borrom of the sixth inning off a Lenser ground out.
- Lenser pitched a complete game with four strikeouts to improve to 16-11 on the season.
- ONU out-hit MU 14-6.
- Muskingum was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
Game 2 - L, 1-7
- Northern scored one run in the second inning off a single from Schroeder.
- Baldwin Wallace then scored all seven of their runs in the fourth inning.
- Lenser pitched another complete game with four strikeouts.
- ONU out-hit BW 9-8.
- Northern was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
Notables
- The Polar Bears finished third in the OAC Tournament.
- Lenser and senior Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) werernamed to the All-Tournament Team.
- Ohio Northern is now 61-77 all-time against Muskingum and 56-39 all-time against Baldwin Wallace.
- Lenser now has 135 strikeouts this season, which ranks third-best in ONU history. She also has 16 wins, which is ranked sixth all-time.
- Lenser is now second in ONU history with 375 career strikeouts and third with 51 career victories in the circle.
- Junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta), senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) and Lenser lead the team in batting through 43 games this season with averages of .417, .410 and .393, respectively.
- Ohio Northern is in its 58th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 1,016-703-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .591.
- Head coach Summer Collins is in her first season at Ohio Northern.
