WILMINGTON — The Ohio Northern softball team split a doubleheader at Wilmington on Wednesday afternoon. ONU won the first game 5-2, but fell 19-6 in game two.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (10-16 Overall, 5-3 OAC), Wilmington (8-11 Overall, 1-5 OAC).
- Venue: WC Softball Complex — Wilmington, Ohio.
Game 1 - W, 5-2
- Wilmington scored their only two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- In the third inning, senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) hit a sacrifice fly and freshman Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) hit an RBI single to tie the game up.
- Freshman Jaylee Fansler (Plainfield, Ind./Avon) hit a sac fly to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.
- Northern scored two more runs in the fifth inning, scoring on a wild pitch and fielder's choice.
- Marker and senior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) each went 3-for-4 to lead the Polar Bears offensively.
- Lenser pitched a complete game with three strikeouts, getting the win in the circle to improve to 7-8 on the season.
- ONU out-hit WC 12-5.
Game 2 - L, 6-19 (5 innings)
- The game was called after 5 innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
- Northern scored four runs in the first inning, including an RBI single from Ava Jolin (Williamston, Mich.), an RBI double from sophomore Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) and a 2-RBI double from junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta).
- Wilmington scored one run in the bottom of the first inning.
- The Polar Bears scored two more runs in the top of the second inning while the Quakers scored one more run in the bottom of the inning, making the score 6-2.
- Wilmington rallied back, scoring eight runs in the third inning and nine in the fourth inning to get the win.
- Lenser was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead ONU. She also pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
- WC out-hit ONU 15-8.

- Ohio Northern is now 38-8 all-time against Wilmington.
- Rosser, Alejandro and Lenser lead the team in batting through 26 games this season with averages of .447, .424 and .368, respectively.
- Wilson now has 97 base hits in 99 career games.
