Gomez wins Discus, Boothby wins Javelin as Men's Outdoor Track and Field leads after Day 1 of OAC Championships

NEW CONCORD - Senior Evan Gomez (Farmington, N.M.) won the discus and junior C.J. Boothby (Milford/Clermont Northeastern) won the javelin to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track & field team into first place on the first day of the 2026 OAC Championships on Thursday.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern is in 1st place of 9 team with 77 points through 7 of 21 events after Day 1.
- Record: Ohio Northern (32-13 Overall).
- Mount Union is in second with 63 points, Otterbein is third with 43 points and Capital is fourth with 41 points.
- Venue: Jackson Family Track - New Concord, Ohio.
ONU Individuals
- Gomez won the discus with a career-best toss of 48.00 meters.
- Boothby won the javelin with a toss of 57.74 meters and was All-OAC in the long jump with a third place finish in 6.92 meters.
- Senior Connor Robbins (Marion/River Valley) was third in the javelin at 53.53m to earn All-Conference accolades.
- Freshmen Elijah Thompson (South Vienna/Northeastern) and Brandon Hogg (Frederickstown) were All-OAC in the pole vault. Thompson was second at 4.51m and Hogg was third at 4.46m.
- Sophomore Asu Pelima (Euclid/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph), junior Oliver Hendricks (Vandalia/Butler), freshman Jared Ryan (North Royalton/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and sophomore Nathan Ogilbee (Powell Olentangy Liberty) were second in the 4x800 relay in 7:44.66 to earn All-OAC honors.
Notables
- The meet consists of 21 events - 7 field events, 11 running events, and 3 relays.
- The top three finishers in each event earn All-Conference honors.
- Gomez moved up to No. 2 on ONU's all-time list in the discus.
- Senior Jacob Clouse (Alvada/New Riegel) was fourth in the 10,000 in 31:14.49, which places him third all-time at ONU.
- Boothby also finshed his prelim race in the 200 in :21.80, which moves him into ninth place all-time in ONU history.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 17th year at Ohio Northern and is 611-174-3 in men's indoor track and field for a winning percentage of .775. He is ONU's all-time winningest coach in track and field history.
