Digby breaks own record in shot put to lead Men’s Outdoor Track and Field to victory at Mike Becraft Invitational

ADA — Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) broke his own school record in the shot put to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team to victory at the third annual Mike Becraft Invitational on Saturday at Kerscher Stadium.

Saturday marked the second and final day of the meet, and the Polar Bears (20-4 overall) topped the nine-team field with 242 points on Senior Day. Adrian (Mich.) was second with 100 points, and Findlay was third with 95 points.

Digby won the shot put, breaking his own school record for the third time this season with a mark of 17.04 meters. The previous record was 16.88 meters, which he threw at the Bucknell (Pa.) Classic on April 16.

The Polar Bears won three other events on Saturday.

Senior Breydan Hann (Wooster) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:52.46, junior Aaron Guzman (Lebanon) won the 1,500 in 4:02.00, and sophomore Tyrese Barker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) won the 110-meter hurdles in :15.43.

Northern added 11 more top-three finishes on the day.

Senior Vini Souza (Spencerville) placed second in the 100 meters, running a personal-best time of :10.80, which is tied for 10th all-time at ONU.

In the long jump, senior Nick Tangeman (Maria Stein/Marion Local) was second with a mark of 6.46 meters, and junior Owen Schoonover (Lima/Shawnee) was third with a mark of 6.20 meters.

Tangeman added a third-place finish in the triple jump, posting a mark of 12.79 meters.

Senior Brandt Marshall (Orange Township/Cory-Rawson) and freshman Andrew Taylor (Fremont/Ross) were second and third, respectively, in the pole vault with marks of 4.30 meters and 3.80 meters.

Freshman Ben Zimmerer (Liberty Township/Lakota West) finished second in the 400 in :50.63, and the team of freshman Zach O'Neill (Holland/Maumee Valley Country Day), junior David Gross (Prospect/Pleasant Local) and sophomores Daniel Vitelli (Amherst/Steele) and Landon Remmert (Marengo/Highland) placed second in the 4x400 relay in 3:27.22.

Remmert added a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of :16.11, and senior Ollie Jacobs (DeGraff/Riverside) was third in the 200 in :22.09.

The team of junior Gabe Hensley (Lebanon), freshman Solomon Lumb (Cincinnati/Sycamore) and sophomores Sam Fisher (Akron/Revere) and Liam Ferroggiaro (Rockford/Parkway) finished third in the 4x100 relay in :43.41.

The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday at the Ashland Open.
