Barker, Masterson set records to lead Men’s Indoor Track and Field at Polar Bear Final Qualifier

ADA — Sophomores Tyrese Barker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) and Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) set records in their respective events to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team in the Polar Bear Final Qualifier on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.
Barker ran a time of :08.51 in the prelim for the 60-meter hurdles to break the school record in the event by :00.01. He placed seventh in the event finals with a time of :08.55.
Masterson set the meet and facility records in the 3,000 meters, winning the event with a personal-best time of 8:20.23, which ranks second all-time at ONU.
Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) also posted a first-place finish, winning the shot put with a throw of 16.93 meters. Digby, the reigning two-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion in the shot put, currently ranks fourth nationally in the event with his season-best and school-record throw of 17.13 meters from the Wittenberg Invitational and is in line to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Digby added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw on Saturday with a mark of 17.56 meters.
Senior Nick Tangeman (Maria Stein/Marion Local) finished second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.57 meters, which is tied for fourth all-time at ONU.
Senior Vini Souza (Spencerville) finished second in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of :06.95, which is tied for second all-time at ONU.
Junior Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) was second in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:22.34.
Sophomore Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) finished third in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 8:46.17, which ranks ninth all-time at ONU.
Freshman Ben Zimmerer (Liberty Township/Lakota West) was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of :52.27, and sophomore Mitchel Vance (Bellefontiane/Benjamin Logan) was right behind in fifth with a time of :52.81.
Senior Breydan Hann and freshman Jacob Clouse (Alvada/New Riegel) rounded out ONU's top-five finishers.
Hann was fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:52.69, and Clouse was fifth in the mile with a time of 4:31.91.
The 2023 indoor track and field season concludes with the NCAA Division III Championships on March 10-11 in Birmingham, Ala.
