Junior Keegan Digby leads Men’s Indoor Track and Field on first day of Ashland Open

ASHLAND — Junior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) set a career-best mark in the weight throw in leading the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team on Day 1 of the two-day Jud Logan Light Giver Open on Friday at Ashland University's Niss Athletic Center.

On his first attempt, Digby threw a career-best 17.72 meters, which ranks second all-time at ONU and is second-best in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season. His previous career-best mark was 16.80 meters, which he accomplished earlier this season.

The throw of 17.72 meters was good for eight place in the weight throw event at the meet, which is not being team scored.

Senior Nick Tangeman (Maria Stein/Marion Local) added an 11th-place finish in the triple jump, posting a mark of 12.14 meters, and junior Tommy Vetrovsky (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) was 17th in the weight throw with a toss of 15.88 meters.

Other highlights from Friday's portion of the meet included a 24th-place finish in the 200 meters by senior Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) in a season-best time of :22.74 and a 27th-place showing in the 5,000 meters by senior Skylar Dawson (West Salem/Northwestern) in a time of 16:41.22.

The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday to close out the Jud Logan Light Giver Open.
