Men's Tennis falls to Whitman (Wash.) 5-0 in First Round of NCAA III Tournament

CLEVELAND — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team fell 5-0 to Whitman (Wash.) in the First Round of the NCAA III Tournament on Friday morning.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (12-9 Overall); Whitman (18-12).

Individual Highlights
- WC grabbed captured courts 1 and 3 to win the doubles point, then won the Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles courts to record the victory.
- The No.s 1 and 2 singles courts ended simultaneously, resulting in the unusual 5-0 final score.
- Junior T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and freshman Noah Boyce (Oakwood) were tied at 6-6 at No. 2 doubles when the match was abandoned.
- Sophomore Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) was leading 6-4, 2-1 at No. 3 singles when the match was stopped.

- The Polar Bears are making their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and its eighth in program history.
- Ohio Northern is now 4-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

- The NCAA had adopted a 7-point team scoring system for Division III, where the three doubles contests only count for one team point as is used in NCAA Divisions I and II.
- In tournament play, the three doubles matches are played to completion, meaning as soon as one team wins two courts and the doubles point, the remaining match is not completed.
- The same is true in singles matches as soon a team wins the required four team points to clinch the match.
- Wood leads the team with a 21-7 singles record and Boyce is right behind at 20-10.
- Boyce has a team-high 15 doubles wins.
- Wood and Boyce each have team-best 35 overall victories.
- Senior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) ends his career with a 120-87 overall record which includes a 55-47 singles mark and a 65-40 doubles record.
- His 120 victories and his 65 doubles wins each ranks 9th all-time at ONU.
- Senior Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) is 51-41 in singles, 28-37 in doubles and is 79-78 overall.
- Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 44-23 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .657.
