Men's Tennis claims fourth consecutive OAC Regular Season title outright with 7-0 victory at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team grabbed its fourth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title outright with a 7-0 victory at Mount Union indoors on Friday afternoon.

- ONU grabbed two of the three the doubles courts to win the doubles point, then swept all six singles courts to record the victory.
- Senior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
- Junior T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
- Sophomore Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
- Freshman Noah Boyce (Oakwood) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
- sophomore Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
- Freshman Jakub Wierzba (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
- Schultz and Wood won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
- Junior Aaron Davis (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) and sophomore Kosuke Asada (Findlay) won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Notables
- The Polar Bears have now won or shared 13 OAC Regular Season titles since the league began its current round-robin regular season schedule format to select the regular season title in 2000.
- ONU leads the series between the two schools by a 1-0 margin.
- The NCAA had adopted a 7-point team scoring system for Division III, where the three doubles contests only count for one team point as is used in NCAA Divisions I and II.
- Wood leads the team with a 19-7 singles record and Boyce is right behind at 18-9.
- Boyce has a team-high 14 doubles wins.
- Wood and Boyce was have team-best 32-21 overall records.
- Specht is 119-85 overall in his career, which includes a 55-46 singles mark and a 63-39 doubles record.
- His 119 victories put him No. 9 all-time in ONU history and his 63 doubles wins ranks 10th all-time at ONU.
- Senior Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) is 51-41 in singles, 28-37 in doubles and is 79-78 overall.
- Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 42-22 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .656.
