Men's Tennis improves to 2-0 in OAC action with 8-1 victory at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Tuesday with an 8-1 victory at Otterbein at the Otterbein Tennis Courts.
ONU improves to 15-4 overall, while the Cardinals fall to 5-6, 1-1.
Seniors Andrew Cochran (Wooster) and Vinh Thai (Galloway/St.Charles) won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, to lead the Polar Bears.
Northern began the match by sweeping the doubles courts.
Thai and junior Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) won 8-4 at No. 1, Cochran and freshman Sam Sran (PB, India / St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) won 8-6 at No. 2 and senior Zach Beaschler (Ada) and freshman Drew Swisher (Findlay) won 8-7(3) at No. 3.
Beaschler won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Sran followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to give ONU a 5-0 lead and seal the victory.
Swisher won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6, Cochran won 6-7(6), 7-6 (2), 10-8 at No. 1 singles and Thai won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to complete the contest.
Thai's two victories give him a 99-64 career record, moving him just one victory away from becoming the 23rd member of ONU's 100-Win Club.
The Polar Bears were scheduled to return to action Wednesday afternoon at home against Baldwin Wallace. but that match has been postponed.
ONU's next scheduled match is Saturday with a 1 pm contest against Marietta at Circleville High School.
