Men's Tennis pushes record above .500 with 7-2 victory over Alma (Mich.)

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ohio Northern men's tennis team swept the three matches in doubles to help defeat Alma (Mich.) 7-2 Wednesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears are now 2-1 on the season to go above .500 for the first time of the year.

Junior Jeff Carter picked up two victories on the day and dropped the fewest amount of games to lead Ohio Northern.

Carter defeated Rob Van Dorin at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1 and teamed with sophomore Andrew Korba at No. 2 doubles to defeat Van Dorin and Ben Schippers 8-1.

In other doubles competition, sophomore Nick Kowalczyk and freshman Joey Frank defeated Kace Lovejoy and Zach Kerr 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and sophomore Matt Dutro and freshman Mike King defeated Alex Montoye and Dave Braidwood 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Frank played No. 1 singles for the Polar Bears and defeated Lovejoy in a hard-fought three-set match 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

Kowalczyk and King also picked up victories in singles play. Kowalczyk defeated Kerr at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-0, and King defeated Wes Augustine at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-2.

Ohio Northern will play at Webber International (Fla.) tomorrow at 1 pm.
