ADA — Ohio Northern junior Ryan Sommerfeld (Dublin/Coffman) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Midstream Lighting, for the week of Oct. 16-22.
This marks Sommerfeld's first career OAC Player of the Week accolade.
The recognition comes after he led the ONU offense with a combined seven points on three goals and one assist in the Polar Bears' 3-1 win at Wilmington on Wednesday and 6-0 victory over Muskingum on Saturday.
He scored one goal against the Quakers and added two more with one assist against the Muskies.
For the season, Sommerfeld is tied for second in the OAC in goals (8) and ranks fifth in points (19).
He is the fourth different Polar Bear to earn an OAC Player of the Week accolade this season, joining senior Will Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales) and juniors Kellan Minch (Beavercreek) and Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Tex./Oak Ridge).
The Polar Bears (9-5-2 overall, 5-1-1 OAC) return to action on Wednesday against Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m. for their final home game of the regular season.
Northern has clinched a spot in the six-team OAC Tournament and is currently tied with Mount Union for second place in the conference standings.
